Louise Roe, host of NBC’s Fashion Star (replacing Elle Macpherson), joins entertainment contributor Bekah Berger to talk the 2nd season of NBC’s retail hit, her love for the Ocean State and what’s hot for fall!
Bekah Berger: I know you’re originally from the U.K. but now live in L.A. Have you ever been to Rhode Island?
Louise Rowe: I have, it is one of my favorite places in America, I love it.
Bekah Berger: When was the last time you were here and what did you do?
Louise Rowe: It was a long time ago with some girlfriends, and I mean we did the touristy stuff like the mansions and the harbor and it was just like my dream place.
Bekah Berger: Plus you know we are home to the Rhode Island School of Design which has produced some pretty big heavy hitters in the fashion industry.
Louise Rowe: Definitely.
Bekah Berger: We have to talk, obviously, about your new gig on Fashion Star. Now for those that may be not too familiar with the first season what can we expect from the second season? Some changes? You being one of them, of course!
Louise Rowe: Yeah! I came on board to host and this show is a really cool concept. It’s a fashion competition show. We have 12 up and coming, brand new, designers and each week they have to create a collection that shows on the runway and they have mentors guiding them along the way and giving them advice. Those people are Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie, and John Varvatos. We also have men’s wear so he’s (John) a mentor designer, amazing guy. And what happens is the designers create the runway look and we have our huge amazing show with models and professional hair and makeup and everything. And then at the end of the runway we have three retailers who sit there, the buyers literally sit there; Macy’s, Saks 5th Avenue and Express and they will bid on the clothes so if they like it they will have a bidding war and if they don’t they won’t and one designer is eliminated each week. But the cool twist is that as soon as those stores have bought the clothes their available online to everybody who is watching. So you can pick and buy what you see.
Bekah Berger: Which for me will be very dangerous.
Louise Rowe: It’s so dangerous! Isn’t it? I know!
Bekah Berger: So what can we look forward to in future episodes?
Louise Rowe: The theme on Friday is actually the naughtiest, it’s “Sex Sells” and so we have challenged the designers to come up with their sexiest looks and really that they can, kind of decide what that means themselves, it doesn’t have to be the obvious and the overt very tight, very short clothes, it can be something a lot more elegant or demur and it’s interesting to see how diverse actually they will decide to be, but that is the theme so “Sex Sells” is what you will see on Friday.
Bekah Berger: Love it! And you know we are less than one week away from spring time and with spring comes spring fashion and you are very big in the fashion industry, obviously, so what can we look forward to, in your opinion, in terms of spring fashions.
Louise Rowe: Yeah, I love this time of year, like you said, especially where you are in Rhode Island you get some beautiful weather and it’s all about bright, bright colors and prints the colors are like sorbets imagine you were going to buy ice cream and that is coming with trends, Pistachio green and lemon yellow and beautiful peach, sherbet all those bright very zingy, vivid colors and some great 60’s graphic prints is going to be huge. Lots of leather, if you do live somewhere really hot then just keep that to maybe your bag or your shoes. Wearing leather in the summer is not necessarily the best idea but there’s some beautiful designs out for spring so just go have fun.
Bekah Berger: Excellent, well Louise we look forward to your next trip here to Rhode Island. Because you love it so much.
Louise Rowe: I can’t wait! You give me the invitation, I’m there! I love it!
You can catch Fashion Star every Friday night at 8pm on NBC.
