Best of RI: Walking Trails for Every Type of Nature Lover

trails

RI has a wide-selection of walking trails, but we’ve done the research and narrowed it down to 4 of our favorites. Some of which might even come as a surprise to you (like a wilderness in the heart of Olneyville!). Check out this list and tell us your favorite place to hit the trails in the comments!

1. Rocky Point State Park

If you haven’t been to Rocky Point in Warwick since it was an amusement park, then you’re missing out on some beautiful seaside vistas. Now a State Park, visitors can enjoy 120 acres of coastal land within 10 miles of Downtown Providence!

2. Beavertail State Park

Rhode Island is called the Ocean State for a reason. Beavertail State Park has some of the most spectacular seascapes, with tide pools, dunes, overlooks, and of course, hiking trails. While you’re there you can also visit the Beavertail Light House and Museum.

3. Arcadia Wildlife Area

The name “Arcadia” is telltale of what this 13,000 acre stretch has in store: unspoiled, harmonious wilderness. Arcadia sprawls from West Greenwich to Hopkinton, and includes marshes, wetlands, forests, and ponds. While hiking you can spot rabbits, turkeys, fish, fowl, and more!

4. Neutaconkanut Hill

via www.nhill.org

In the densely packed Silver Lake/Olneyville section of Providence, one would not expect there to be 88 acres of trees, fields, and wild flowers, interspersed with valleys, ravines, glacial boulders, stone walls, fresh water springs and brooks. However, that’s exactly what Neutaconkanut Hill has to offer! This unique park also boasts stunning views of the Providence city skyline. If wildlife in the city is what you’re after, the Hill is the natural habitat for a multitude of small woodland animals including deer, fox, and wild turkey.
