Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has apologized after comments about Kylie Minogue during a podcast appearance drew public criticism.
The remarks came during an interview on the comedy podcast Bush Deep, where host Nikki Osborne asked Albanese to take part in a “shag, marry, date” style game involving Minogue, Nicole Kidman, and Rhonda Burchmore. Albanese first pointed out that he had recently married Jodie Haydon, but later answered by naming Minogue.
The comment was criticized by political opponents and women’s advocates, who said it was inappropriate for the office of prime minister. Some critics described the exchange as disrespectful and argued that public leaders should avoid language that reduces women to sexualized comments, even in informal settings.
Albanese later issued a clear apology, saying he apologized unequivocally for the comments. Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles defended Albanese’s broader record on gender equality while acknowledging the apology.
Minogue has not publicly responded to the remarks.
